Anguilla’s Gateway to the Future: Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport Redevelopment Takes Flight

In a significant leap towards modernizing its infrastructure and boosting its tourism sector, Anguilla is witnessing remarkable progress in the redevelopment of its Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport. As of June 20th, 2024, the collaborative efforts of Aecon and Kelly Construction are in full swing, bringing the vision of a state-of-the-art terminal building closer to reality.

This ambitious project, known as the Anguilla Airport Redevelopment Program Package 3, represents a pivotal moment in the island’s development strategy. The new terminal is not just a building; it’s a symbol of Anguilla’s aspirations to become a premier Caribbean destination and a key driver of economic growth.

Our construction teams have wasted no time in getting the project off the ground. With the work site now safely established, we have begun the crucial earthworks that will form the foundation of the new terminal. This initial phase sets the stage for what promises to be a transformative addition to Anguilla’s infrastructure.

The new terminal is designed to significantly enhance the airport’s capacity and passenger experience. Upon completion, it will be able to accommodate larger aircraft, including Boeing 737 Max 8s, which can carry up to 170 passengers. This increased capacity is expected to open up new possibilities for direct flights from major North American and European cities, potentially revolutionizing Anguilla’s tourism industry.

But it’s not just about size. The terminal will boast modern amenities that cater to the needs of today’s travelers. Plans include expanded check-in and immigration areas, new food and beverage outlets, duty-free shopping, and a VIP lounge. These features are designed to make the airport experience more comfortable and efficient for both arriving and departing passengers.

The project also aligns with Anguilla’s commitment to sustainable development. The new terminal is being built with energy efficiency in mind, incorporating design elements that reduce its environmental footprint while maintaining a high standard of comfort and functionality.

For Anguillians, this project represents more than just an improved airport. It’s a catalyst for economic growth and job creation. The construction phase alone is providing employment opportunities for local workers, and once operational, the expanded airport is expected to stimulate growth in various sectors, from hospitality to retail.

The collaboration between Aecon, a leading Canadian construction company with international experience, and Kelly Construction, a respected local firm, brings together global expertise and local knowledge. This partnership ensures that the project not only meets international standards but also reflects the unique character and needs of Anguilla.

As the earthworks progress and the foundation of the new terminal takes shape, there’s a palpable sense of excitement on the island. The Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport redevelopment is more than an infrastructure project; it’s a gateway to Anguilla’s future, promising enhanced connectivity, economic opportunities, and a world-class welcome for visitors to this Caribbean gem.

With completion expected in the fall of 2025, Anguilla is on track to boast what officials are already calling the “Flagship Airport of the Caribbean.” As the project moves forward, it continues to symbolize Anguilla’s ambition, resilience, and readiness to take its place as a leading destination in the region.
