The small island nation of St. Kitts and Nevis is home to pristine beaches, lush rainforests, and charming colonial architecture. It is also home to Kelly Construction, a division of the Kelly Group Inc. that has been making its mark on the local construction industry since 2012. Specializing in civil works, building construction, piling, and marine projects, Kelly Construction recently reached an important milestone with the successful completion of piling at the new Seahawk Marina in Frigate Bay.
The Seahawk Marina project involved installing 155 pairs of sturdy sheet piles to construct the piers and docking infrastructure. Originally slated for a 6-week timeline, Kelly Construction’s team of skilled engineers, project managers, and construction workers completed the piling a full week ahead of schedule. This impressive efficiency serves as a testament to the company’s project planning capabilities and commitment to on-time delivery.
The piling process is complex and physically demanding. It requires driving long steel sheet piles deep into the seafloor using a crane and pile driver. The sheet piles are interlocked to form a sturdy retaining wall able to withstand wave action and support marina infrastructure. Kelly Construction leveraged its extensive equipment fleet and experience to overcome potential challenges like unexpected soil conditions or weather delays.
While the seamless piling process may seem effortless, it is the result of careful planning, coordination, and hard work. Kelly Construction’s Core Leadership Team oversees project planning from start to finish, working closely with managers to allocate equipment, materials, and human resources. Site managers ensure on-the-ground operations run smoothly, while crews work efficiently as a cohesive unit. This organizational structure facilitates information sharing and collaboration critical for executing large-scale projects on accelerated timelines.
